Judicial appointment system in France: Cyra Nargolwalla comments in Managing IP

Press review

The England and Wales High Court is currently recruiting two intellectual property specialist judges, and the task is not an easy one, according to an article in Managing Intellectual Property. The article compares judicial appointment systems in six European countries and asks Cyra Nargolwalla, Co-managing Partner at Plasseraud IP, to explain the French system.

In England and Wales a candidate must be a highly experienced lawyer and accept a significant pay cut. Cyra points out that in France it is difficult to become a judge, even though a candidate passes a judicial test in his/her early twenties and follows it by further courses and training. The judicial exam is extremely tough, and the training is also very demanding.
