Celebrating the Launch of the Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre of the Unified Patent Court (PMAC) in Ljubljana

Our mediators and representatives before the Unified Patent Court (UPC), Anne Desaix and Jean-Marc Coquel, attended the inauguration of the PMAC, in Ljubljana on 2 June 2026.

The event brought together a distinguished panel of speakers, including:

  • Her Excellency Nataša Pirc Musar, President of the Republic of Slovenia;
  • Michael McGrath, European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection;
  • António Campinos, President of the European Patent Office;
  • Klaus Grabinski, President of the UPC Court of Appeal;
  • and Aleš Zalar, Director of the PMAC.

The PMAC is a specialised institution dedicated to resolving disputes involving patents through mediation, arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR).

With two seats, one in Ljubljana (Slovenia) and the other in Lisbon (Portugal), the PMAC provides a dedicated framework and facilities for resolving disputes within the jurisdiction of the UPC, as well as other disputes relating to European patents, European patents with unitary effect, and potentially national patents, together with associated issues such as contractual matters, know-how and trademarks.

We look forward to following the Centre's development and wish it every success in fulfilling its important mission.
