Plasseraud IP in Japan : focus on pharmaceutical and biotechnology intellectual property

Continuing their trip to Japan, Catherine Touati, Nadine Rocaboy and Atsuya Takeshita, partners at Plasseraud IP, spoke at the Japan Bioindustry Association (JBA) to present the key principles of intellectual property as applied to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.

This presentation, entitled ‘Recent developments in European SPCs and regulations relating to genomic inventions’, addressed the latest developments and trends in supplementary protection certificates (SPCs) in Europe, draft European regulations on genome-related inventions, and other major institutional issues for players in the biopharmaceutical sector.

Founded in 1987, the Japan Bioindustry Association (JBA) is a leading organisation committed to the sustainable development of biosciences and biotechnologies in Japan, working closely with industry, academia and civil society.

These discussions highlighted the strategic role of intellectual property in the life sciences, both for the protection of innovation and for the development of international collaborations between Japan and Europe.
